Another update.
Two of the three FDHD drive mechanisms from Shreve are faulty, and will
be heading back. I already have an RMA number.
Bad drive number 1 won't eject. It seems to read and write OK, and the
bent paperclip works to remove a disk, of course. I never bothered
testing it extensively after this.
Bad drive number 2 eats floppies. At random intervals, disks that it
touches get bad physical sectors. I can't see anything wrong with them
upon visual inspection, but ruined disks won't format under ProDOS any
more, and when formatted with PC-DOS, a chkdsk shows bad sectors.
So a warning to you all: check those Shreve mechanisms closely...
