Re: Mix LGR and Text?

and fails on all other emulators.

You probably haven't tried that on MESS's Apple ][ driver then. ;-) I
contributed code that emulates the floating bus/video scanner timing,
and with a bit of work we got it fairly stable, though there's still
room for improvement there.

The best example I know of in a commercial game is "Money Munchers" by
Bob Bishop (1982). It's just the title screen which mixes LORES and
text but with a nice little animation. In the emulator a friend and I
wrote in C++ a few years back, I had this example working rock solid.
(As will my upcoming porting Java port.)

The only other title I recall that uses this technique is "Drol", which
seems to play fine on most emulators, but then after you finish levels
1, 2 and 3 it locks up before the next round. It's using the "floating
bus" to sync with vsync for its animation.

The "vapor lock" technique was independently discovered by at least
two people, Bob Bishop and Dan Lancaster, who each published articles
on how to do it.

Of course, the only reason I was able to implement all this is Sather's
Understanding the Apple ][ & //e. I wish I could email that guy to say
thanks!

Boy, I second that. Jim did a great service to the Apple II world.
