Early Apple IIes were available in a PAL version, but all the later ones (
1986 and on?) were NTSC. I believe the mono/colour switch you mentioned
is only on the PAL motherboard. If you look at the far end of the
motherboard it may be labelled something like 'Apple IIe PAL' or 'Apple
IIe International NTSC'.
