Righto. Well, I know that this topic has been almost done to death in
the past as I've read and re-read the archives for this group. However
I'm still having trouble and would please like some advise.
First of all, what I own. I have a IIGS, ROM 03 with a 4mb ram card in
it. I also have the 6.0.1 system discs. This has two 3.5" and one
5.25" drives with it. I also have a Mac Classic with 4mb RAM running
7.5.5. Then I have a standard PC which is connected to the Internet.
None of the other machines have Internet access.
Please bear in mind that I know little about Macs. The reason I have
one is purely so I can play with the IIGS (and IIe), thoughI have to
admit it's not really too difficult to use. My past with computers was
a IIe at school, then went from there to a PC running DOS and Win 3.11,
then up through the various Windows versions. However, the appeal of
the Apple II started me on a hunt to track one down, then a IIGS, then
some upgrades, etc, etc
Anyway, back on topic ...
What I've been doing is using a program called "Transmac" to copy the
downloaded files from the PC to a HFS formatted Mac 1.44mb floppy.
Then copy them to the Mac Classic where I can transfer them to an 800k
floppy that the IIGS will recognise. However, I'm running up against
these darned resource forks that the Mac add to the file. not to
mention the files ending up as type $00.
Also it seems that almost everything I transfer to the Mac to help with
this "issue" ends up as a file which isn't recognised? I tried using
ProType 1.1 but it's just a file with no ext that the Mac doesn't
recognise. The SEA version of GS Shrinkit at:
http://apple2.org.za/gswv/a2zine/Utils/ isn't recognised on either the
Mac or IIGS and I'm at somewhat of a loss to know where to go from
here.
I figure there's some simple thing I'm missing but I don't know what it
is. Also, there's a site called ftp://ground.ecn.uiowa.edu/apple2/
which is referenced often as having various tools but that I can't seem
to get to - does this still exist?
I'm sure I've missed things out in this post but the basics are here.
Any suggestions? What I can try next? I don't think I'm that "stupid"
when it comes to computers ... no, really ... :)
Oh, also, I *don't* have a Super Serial card so that's out as an
option. though it's on my list of things to get ...
Thanks,
Steve
