Actually, yes, they have.

Apple provides quite a bit of Mac OS X core code for public consumption,
and it is a good netizen in giving back where it has borrowed
(for example, the large amount of saphari code given back to the KDE developers).

Perhaps it would be worth approaching them again,
even the source to prodos and basic.system would be a good start,
and its unlikely there'd be any algorithms in that which are still in use in OS X.
