I'm sure that any "secrets" in Mac/Apple code have already been reverse-engineered by anyone who is interested. The real point is that Apple has no motivation to take any action that has the potential to cause them to expend _any_ effort for no gain. That is, in fact, why most copyright holders will not relinquish their rights to obsolete works, but will also not object when the rights are ignored.
