You want to create _text_ files containing Applesoft programs

Ciderpress will do this quite easily. You can set options so
that the PC .txt file converts to an Apple text file, with the
CR-LF to CR conversion.

It _isn't_ an "Applesoft BASIC" file until the text file has
been EXECed into an emulator and the program saved to a disk
image.

Yes. I did tell CiderPress to do this (I actually named the file
<filename>.bas and it picked it up as a BASIC file, but, it still mangled
the first line of my code. Now, in the text file, I also have line number
(shouldn't be a problem).

When I execute the file in applesoft it really doesn't work as expected,
because of the mangling. That's really where my beef is.

If the file is not imported as a text file, it will think that
there is length (for BASIC) or address/length (binary) information
prior to the data.

The files you are typing in are _not_ BASIC files, but text files.
A BASIC file is a tokenized "binary" file created by Applesoft.

Make sure that you are importing the file as a text file.
