I think your perception of the situation couldn't be further off. The
initial pricing was set by Call-A.P.P.L.E., who were originally going to
sell the product. When they fizzled out and nothing happened, Mike Harvey
rescued the project and kept the already announced price. He has since
lowered the price because he thought it was fair. For everyone who bought
the collection at the higher price, Mike said he would make up the
difference in credit toward any other products on his site. It's a better
offer than you'd get from most vendors.

...and I thought I was cynical.
