The proper name for "NTSC b&w" is nowadays EIA 525/60. The European
b&w standard is called CCIR 625/50:

EIA (Electronic Industries Alliance) has a standard for video signals
called RS-170 -- this is the proper name for "NTSC video".

So now you know that the Apple II outputs RS-232 in its serial port
and RS-170 on its video output !!!!!!!!!!
