Tempest,

I want to let you know that we are looking for other ways to disable RGB card so it will force DHGR into color instead of monochrome. I will update the information later.

It could be grayscale, I'd have to look. I think it was entirely black
and white, like the artifacting was completly turned off. Is there a
way to get around this?

I have also observed this, I tried Manic Mansion, Battle Chess and Beagle Graphics and I get black and white out of the RGB card just like on a monochrome monitor in monochrome mode (on the PAL motherboard there is a switch to turn off colors in the composite signal).

I wonder if this has to do with the color killing of text, if you look at the demo disk for the 80col/RGB card you see that text that is colored on the NTSC/PAL output will be white on RGB. It might be there is an attribute somewhere that defines to the RGB what is text and what is color. I see this also in the "flashcards demo" that some of the "cards" that pop up in the middle of the screen ar displayed in black and white with much higher resolution while on NTSC there are colors and lower resolution. It seems like this is a feature of the 80col/RGB card which is not in the IIgs RGB. This feature is probably not taken into account in those programs for some reason.

BTW if you have a real AppleColor 100 monitor you could tell us what colors you have. I'm using a CGA monitor with my 80col/RGB card so I wonder. Are the colors approximately the same as on NTSC? That is color 5 is gray while color 8 is brown? Is it brown or dark yellow? To get better correspondence between NTSC and RGB on the CGA I'm in the process to make a converter which substitutes the pattern for color 5 with the pattern for color 8 and also swapping some of the bluish colors. I have a working prototype using a GAL16V8 (used as a PAL16L8).
