The games you seek are the Scott Adams text adventures, and yes they are 
on the Asimov archive under adventure. The two you specifically refer to 
are Pyramid of Doom and The Count.
I spent a lot of time on these in the 80's too, though the only one I 
ever actually solved with no hints was Strange Oddysey (well my brother 
did anyway...)
