While I'm sorta inclined to agree, You should be aware that there IS a limit, but I can't remember if it's 4gb or 2gb. If you want all your drives to be formatted for ProDOS, you're limited to about 224MB. if there's a 225 or 250, go for it.Xerxes409 wrote:Hi guys, The SCSI drive in my old IIGS broke, and I need to get a replacement. There are a ton of old SCSI drives available for purchase here in Japan, but I'm wondering which ones will actually work. I've seen an Ultra Wide SCSI, SCSI II, and a 9GB SCSI drive for about 16 bucks at the local used computer shop. What should I be looking for, and am I going to be limited in HFS partition size? For $9, get the 9 gig.
If you don't mind having some HFS partitions, then your available space increases. In the early '90s ('93 or 94), I got a used 327mb drive, and partitioned 6 32mb ProDOS partitions and one large for the era 135mb HFS partition. I'm still using that on my IIGS today.
You might not be able to get around the 2/4gb (not sure) limit by partitioning, due to the age of the hardware, I'm not sure. Of course, for $9, the wasted space probably isn't as big a loss.
