...and this newsgroup goes even further back than 1990.  I started posting
here in 1989, when it was still called comp.sys.apple (note the lack of the
"2" on the end).  The oldest post Google has for comp.sys.apple is dated 5
November 1986:

The fifth post to the new group indicates that it was to replace
net.micro.apple, which was going away as part of the Great Renaming:

That means this newsgroup has been around in one form or another for over 22
