The "Apple Blue Book"

I was in a used book store in Colorado Springs
this weekend and found a nice hard-cover version
of:
        THE BLUE BOOK
   For the Apple Computer
           1983/84

I hadn't seen one of these things before.  It
includes a rather long (over 1000 pages) list of
software, hardware, and accessories for the
Apple ][, along with descriptions, prices and
sources.  The hardware section includes pictures
of many of the boards available at the time.

Were these books common/popular?  20 years later
this is a neat little (ok, big) resource for
identifying software and hardware.
