You can purchase RJ45 to DB25 or DB9 adapters and use an ethernet patch cable. I have found that method pretty easy to do and you don't have any hot tools. You do need a tool to insert and extract the pins. As far as I know there are no such adapters for Apple ][ connectors, perhaps there should be.
