i of course have to copy terry olsen's setup hardware/software and hand
holding to get it up...hey it worked in 1991 why change

anyway terry find a source for your hardware box ( i assume you still are
using that eithernet/serial device trick ...again it would
have to be explained to me...) but it would be nice to have some kinda
source for these that were not $399 ...

too bad..if i still had the lost gonzo up on the free T1 (yeah i had a hook
back in the day) people that used to play on the windows
worldgroup pc side really got a kick out of fighting to get into spacer
quest 1 user at a time after playing 16 node tw2002 gold or
majormud...

(by the way i found a copy by some nutt..that took the tpro 4.2f RPG BBS
game and made it run on  a unix box..anyone
interesting in something that odd...figured if i ever put up the tpro 4.2f
RPG BBS again (a basically RPG game with BBS built around it)
i'd put the fv/metal up on a gs and the tpro bbs on another gs and call it
original.....and then get a linux box..make this linux/unix hack
look JUST like the orig Trpo 4.2f rpg apple //gs bbs i used to run (look on
google under guy t. rice he has a perm to copy this on this
so people can use this bbs software it is around) and put it on a menu with
...tpro rpg bbs SERVER 255 users...and then laugh my ass
off

assuming that most of the hooks on the unix/linux tpro hack were the same as
you would use in the day for the fv/metal bbs setup (like
the boycott bbs ) and only the asci/ansi menus ..or menu commands ..ie hooks
...like a) accounts needed to be editied rather then
programmed in...you could prob (even a non-programer like myself..if i knew
linux) could hack together something like the fv/metal bbs
ie..like mine the gonzo or boycott...of course games would not be QUITE the
same...ie metal/fv bowling..you'd have to use some door
game for msdos bbs's that also did bowling....instead of spacer quest you'd
have to replace it with a ansi pc door like spacer quest 2112
(now a server) or equiv...but again...if i still had that monster bbs setup
on done here i would prob just would have done such..so that my
windows bbs based majormud users could at least find some way ...to get a
sorta kinda experience of an old apple // bbs i used to run
in the day without 30 people (yeah i used to watch this in channels area)
try to hit on 2 apple // gs's from 6-9pm on a sat all at the same time
because they heard about spacer guest and thought..it was like a cool place
to go (mainly cause the little dweebs..had major problems hitting on
the gs w/the traffic)

it would be a kludge..but...educating some of these kids on the old ways
would have been good

whatever...i still need to start a retro computer club/ get some foo...er i
mean sysops to donate for a static ip..and then figure out how to
get the beast back up...naw..i'll just play in the apple // area
