Re: SVD (Semi-Virtual Diskette) support for Apple ][s now documented

I sent eric an email regarding this when he first made some noise about
the SVD (almost 2 years ago). He was gaging interest on the Apple II
front.

The thing I envisioned it was essentally a Ram based Disk II emulator
card that intercepted the RWTS routines. You could unpack or copy your
images to the card, then warmboot and play the games. The trick is
swapping disks when prompted. One way would be to provide enough ram
to hold all the disks that the game requires.... However, I think it
would have to allow for twelve 140k volumes since I belive there is at
least one game that takes up 12 sides - maybe more?. (Kings Quest V -
if I'm not mistaken). Theres definately a handful of 6 & 8 sided wares
as well. Even if this flew, you'd still have to have a phisical switch
to initiate the change. I was waiting to see what eric comes up with
in the 1mb revision and maybe promt him to make a 2 mb "option".
Although if using a PC slave, then this much is not at all necessary.

The SVD has come a long way, and I think its stayed pretty true to it's
initial track, a universal (semi) virtual disk for multiple patforms.
A custom standalone "inboard" version would be a killer app.
