Another caveat with Mac OS X on a beige G3 is that if you use the built-in
IDE controller, the partition on which Mac OS X resides must be in the first
8 GB of the drive.  If you put a newer, larger drive in yours (like I did
because the hard drive was missing from mine when I bought it), you'll also
want to pick up a PCI IDE controller (it has to be one of the expen$ive ones
that work with a Mac; the $20 ATA133 controllers for x86 boxen won't work)
and run the hard drive off of that.  This type of installation (or
installation to a SCSI drive) isn't subject to the 8 GB limit.
