I think it was done primarily to accomodate the large amount of
user-submitted material they were receiving. The page size and page
count went up quite a bit when they made the switch. I'm not familiar
with the economics of perodical publishing, so I don't know if they
also saved money going to that format.
I called a couple of local libraries: 10 cents a page with a 1-hour
time limit. Not really an efficient method, but better than nothing,
I suppose. I'll stop by my local Staples this week.
