Smartport I believe.  It's daisy chained with 2 3.5" drives.   Was the
boot ROM only changed in ROM 03?  Would using a Disk II card fix the
problem?

Well I do love Airheart, but when I tried it out it didn't look too bad
(maybe a little blurry).    What games used the Double Hi-Res mode?
The only ones I know of off the top of my head are the Sierra games
(Kings Quest, Space Quest, etc.) and Airheart.
