Thanks for the offer, but I think I've fixed it. I bent the metal fingers that extend into the center of the switch and push back against the contacts when the key is pressed, and now it appears to be right - at least for now!
Just tossed a IIe platinum keyboard with a broken switch. Bought a whole keyboard off eBay so I didn't need to mess with it. They have more for $12.99 each.
Just to give you an idea of what it's like here, an eBay.com.au search of "apple ii" turned up 4 matches, one of which is a CD that is probably a mirror of asimov.net.
To buy and ship a keyboard would cost me many times what I paid for this Apple IIe - a slab of coke! ;)
