Re: My favorite Apple II

Yes, expansion cards for other Apple II's will work in a IIgs with the
exception of cards that go into the AUX slot in a IIe. Good news is
that the only card that goes into an AUX slot in a IIe is an
80col/memory card (sometime available with RGB). The GS already built
in RGB and 80 columns, and a lot more memory stock on the motherboard
than a IIe. The IIe came with 64k on the motherboard while the GS
either came with 256k (ROM 1) or 1MB (ROM 3) hardwired. A ROM 2 GS
never existed.

Likewise, most of the cards that are available for the Apple II are
redundant if you're using an Apple IIGS. However you are free to use
them if you'd like. The GS has a built in: Clock, 5.25" and 3.5" drive
controllers, 80 column text, 2 serial ports for modem or printer, mouse
port, and RGB video. The GS is also >almost< as fast stock as a IIe
with an accelerator Card installed.

You can get an Apple IIc or IIc+ with most of the above features
installed, however you wont have any additional hardware expansion
capabilites due to lack of slots. This includes a life without a hard
drive most likely.

Ebay is the best place to buy floppies. Make sure that they are DS/DD
(Double Sided, Double Density) NOT HD (High Density). Although you
could ask on comp.sys.apple2.marketplace and maybe someone will unload
some extras or used like John said.
