There is an Apple dealer diagnostic disk called "Apple II Diagnostics"
(the latest I have is version 3.0) that detected what model it was running
on and performed a whole slew of tests. On a IIgs, it'd test on-board and
expansion RAM among other things.
I can't remember if I uploaded it anywhere in the past, but I'm not able
to find it now on any of the FTP sites. If anyone is interested I can dig it
up, it actually recognizes the difference between a II+,e,c,c+ and GS
and changes the test options accordingly (it uses the AppleWorks style
interface if that rings a bell with anyone).
Meanwhile, try "Bit Banger" which can be downloaded from here:
ftp://ground.ecn.uiowa.edu/apple2/Mirrors/trenco/utils/diagnostics/bitbanger10.shk
Also worth mention, on the third AppleWorks GS diskette, there's a
utility included called "MemoryTest.CL" that tests expansion cards.
I know for less common cards like my 8 MB RAM GS Plus (aka CV-RAM)
you need a specialized diagnostic written for that card.
