FYI - I have a ROM 03, 8 MHz 1.02 ZipGx with 32k cache - works fine. I
had to replace the cable using an IDE drive cable and a 40pin
insulation displacemet connector (Jameco). I couldn't get 64k cache to
work (think this should work), but 32k works fine.

It seems like it should work on an 03 if it works on an 01, but .....
check the cable (press, & play note changes, spread pins slightly),
check the cache (maybe put in stock chips for testing), lower the clock
rate down to 8 MHz?

However, if it works on the 01 I don't think I'd sweat things too much.
I'd just use the 01. You can break things trying to fix them.
