The 6522 VIA has 2 8bit bidirectional ports and counters.
It should be fairly easy to trace the foil and determine what addresses
C0XX,Slot are needed to set the chip and move the data.
He's half way to all kinds of fun you can have with 16 bits of interface.
The 6522 was the I/O of the commodore 64 so there are plenty of schematics
and I'm sure programming examples.
