i'm not sure...about this even thou i have one..but could you not do the
same thing with the 3.5"
A.E. floppy drive..use 1.2 disks in it.but it had software to allow
this....i seem to remember this
but i think i only played with it once....that might be the better /cheaper
solution if you just want to use the 1.2
sized disks...

(the only reason i remember this is my a.e. drive blew up and they had a
deal to convert your version
to a h.d. version for like 1/3 the price of fixing or getting a new one..so
they swapped the mechanisms i figured
what the heck..back in the day when it was worth fixing a 3.5" drive..i
wrote on the bottom of it...that it was
an improved version but never really used it....after that 1st day of
opening the repaired drive)

That doesn't really solve the problem. While the AE HD drive could use
high density disks, it used a format that other computers couldn't read
and it couldn't read anyones 1.4mb disks.
The superdrive controller seems like the best option for floppy disks
with the second place likely going to ///SHH Systemes BlueDisk
controller
