Re: IIGS/Networking/Marinetti buffs please help (long!)

Hi Glenn,
I'm just downloading Ethereal. I hope I'll find out what it can do for me, otherwise I'll have to badger you. ;-) Badgering: I have downloaded ethereal, but the Windows PC is not involved in the whole thing, as it's just another client on the DSL modem/router.

As long as the Mac and the PC acting as the sniffer (running ethereal) are on a shared ethernet *hub* (not switch) then your PC will see all the packets on that hub. You can then filter out the ones that you don't want to see.

I originaly had all my equipment plugged into one of my two linksys's (DSL router + switch and Wireless AP +switch) but move any equipment I want to packet snif over to a shared 4 port hub I went out and bought just for that purpose ...

Yes, I can telnet out to numbered IP-hosts, but it doesn't work with their aliases.
Example: sdf-eu.org does not work, 192.94.73.35 does.

Ok thats good to know.

I suspect I have the wrong dns information in my Marinetti panel or in my Performa TCP/IP-Settings. Tweaking now ... if I only knew in which direction.

Remember that a dns request/response is just another type of traffic on your network. So if telnet can get out and back so should your dns traffic. My recommedation would be to use the DNS server addresses your ISP provides. If you can get a capture of the dns/request up unitl the timeout message I would be happy to review it for you ...

So the Gatorbox is working for you? I didn't get my Fastpath to work.

Yes it works well although I must admit I havn't been using MacIP a great deal as I have been toiling :O) over ethernet for the II ...
