IIRC not every card with 4 MB or less is automatically DMA compliant. For example the "GS-RAM" from Applied Engineering with up to 1.5 MB. To my knowledge 0.5 MB are non-compliant - though I don't know which 0.5 ;-) Maybe this is dependent on the revision of the card, too.
