Hmm. 80 colums actually looks better on the regular IIc LCD! Scary.

Indeed. This unit was obviously designed for TV resolution rather than
monitor usage, and even then it leaves a lot to be desired.
And poor 80-column behavior is a natural consequence of ordinary
NTSC color processing. And almost no color monitors have a mode
to increase video bandwidth in the absence of a color signal--except
the AppleColor Composite Monitor.
What is "nice" about this LCD is that text screens have virtually none
of the pink/green fringeing that you get on CRT TVs. The text
screenshots were done with the clour level at the default setting. If I
turn it up to 100% it starts to show the fringes, but still not that
badly. I've no idea if this would be true of all LCDs.
Actually, CRT TVs shouldn't show color fringing on text screens, either,
unless they are out of adjustment.
When the color burst is off, as it is for text modes (not "mixed,
though), a color TV/monitor should show no significant color fringing.
The problem is that if the convergence adjustment of the TV/monitor is
a bit off, then there will be fringing (usually of complementary colors)
on opposite sides of any "white" areas.
Another potential issue is that a TV/monitor may not fully "kill" the
color demodulator, which will result in artifact colors, of the type
that are _very_ prominent with Apple text in the graphics modes.
