That's not a serial port, that's the joystick connector.


It is also possible to connect the PC and II (+ or e) via the joystick connector. Apple Oasis has support for this, including a disk server. Oasis includes the cable and connection info.

Actually, that would be through the internal 16-pin game port, not the
9-pin joystick port.  The annunciators, required as outputs, are not
present on the joystick port.
