Apple II?  who in their right mind would spend time on that old beast?
Well, none of the geeks I know who are A2 fans are in their right mind ;)

The aspects of the II are so vast, so challenging, and just so dang
INTERESTING!

Some work on hardware and come up with new cards, new peripherals, new
add-ons..  Some on software and make the old lady do things she never knew
she could.
Some restore her looks and reclaim her once faded glory  to "new in box"
state for collection and mind boggling, wallet busting eBay buys. Some like
to play ancient games, or use old and favorite applications (ever compared a
Shadow write or Fredwriter session to modern day MS Word?  Don't.  Word
looses).
Another class of fanatics just despise the world Gates and Jobs brought us
and keep the  True Religion(tm) of Woz. Some like to hook old boxes together
to make bizarre network clusters (See my own Network from Heck series for a
record of this particular decent into depravity). I actually know of one
business that got a application working on an Apple II almost 20 years ago
and refuses to change something that works fine.

Various reasons. various obsessions,  but all fanatical about it.
Right mind?  Thank goodness I ain't in it.
Apple II forever !
