Ethernet via Fastpath 4

Hi all,
the fastpath 4 ethernet-appletalk bridge was mentioned 
several times on this forum.
I was trying to set up the thing with my IIGS, but the 
sheer weight of the documentation (along with my lack of 
Apple networking knowledge) put me somewhat off.
Could any actual user of the thing talk me through 
setting it up?
I'm not quite sure what I'll do once I have Apple file 
sharing running - my goal would be to put the GS on the 
internet eventually.
On a side note: Has anyone got the Asantetalk Localtalk 
to Ethernet adapter running on the GS - it was Plug and 
Play on the Mac Plus (no installation required, and 
that's what puzzles me).
