: I don't think anyone is suggesting they mail out all that for free. But
: frankly, the $60 they were asking when I first needed a com program was
: way more than I was willing to spend on an obsolete computer I saved
: from the trash. So I downloaded a few comm programs from the archives,
: and found that Agate worked well enough to meet my needs- and I had it
: running in a few minutes. I didn't care that it didn't come with a
: bound manual.

I'm in agreement here. I find that freeware can be just
as good as commercial software, and is just as easy,
if not moreso, to set up and operate. Most of what I use
on my PC is freeware, and what I can't find a SN# for,
I simply purchase. I do that with Apple II also. If I need
a good program, and it's available for a reasonable price,
I buy it. Getting ready for SIS and Spectrum Deluxe CD
soon. I will buy them. :o)

: Very nice of them to now offer it for $20. That's what
: I paid for MusicMatch, modern software that is updated
: regularly and which I use regularly.

I'm not against them recouping their losses. I would do the same.

: If I'd had to pay thru the nose for Shrinkit, a comm program, etc, I
: would have tossed that IIc back in the trash.

Similarly, I found a IIgs and an LC in the dumpsters and I didn't
feel at the time that paying for software, or paying high prices for
hardware, was the way to go, but now, with all of the options there
are, it pays to invest in stuff that developers are making.
Anyone need a RAM-4-GS, second revision, with date stamp?
I'm offering them prepaid again to help defray my costs. Please,
help me get them going again. :o)

: I just gave away a 400 mhz PC to a person like that, and set her up
: with dialup internet access for an affordable $5.50/mo. (550access.com)
: I picked up a 1 ghz Athlon with 512 meg or RAM and a 30 gig hd for $5
: at the dump, so I didn't need the 400 mhz computer any more.
: Considering that, I can't imagine someone using an Apple II to
: "save money".

They are so cheap new also, and for the money, they're great.
I agree, no need to settle for running the Apple IIgs when you
can get a Complete system from Dell for $500-$700.

: I prefer *thrifty*. ;-))
: Waste not, want not. There's nothing noble about throwing
: away money.

I agree also. I have thrown away money on things, but,
somehow got it back in the end. Just don't know where
it went off-hand. LOL I need to keep better records. :o)
