Re: Online Apple BBS's

not sure if it is worth running a bbs per say..but i know with my huge
system of stuff from applenet 3.3 to tpro 4.2f rpg bbs on another apple and
fv/metal 4.0xev on another bbs and worldgroup 3.2 setup on another system
and MajorMUD game server...and also tw2002 gold game server..and also a
space quest 2112 game server ..and the web game i never quite got up still
avail called 'legend of the green dragon" a freeware stand alone web server
game...all this stuff more or less built on one another since 1983...till i
last had the setup up (www.lost-gonzo.com still down) in sept 2002 when it
went down...not to mention the synchronet www.synchro.net setup running old
bbs multinode (200 users plus per game pre inet port you have avail) with
fossil32 package....and the 1000's of door programs for ms dos bbs format
avail to run on it....

as a bbs per say...prob not worth running...but if you have say a linux web
based game server or running www based games off your www site or as an
addition to a boring...non-gaming special interest rpg web site etc
etc....for adding depth and some historical perspective to make you diff
from other web sites or game servers...well such depth i think would be
something to make your www server or www page setup stand out...i just wish
there were some game server types
around here interested in that kinda stuff...(sigh i used to have a free T1
to do the above..but they got gobbled up...and poof went my access..and
other sysops moved...thus my yelling for people to move to mankato minnesota
from the comp sys apple 2 group....(unlikely)

besides....it would be dang tough to play 'spacer quest' or 'star wars' or
majormud....on my web based bbs with out such links to some of this stuff...

so as a quick easy addition to to you web based game server...the stuff
avail out there even in multinode only like the www.synchro.net
stuff....beats tick tac toe or some of the baby www games i've seen on the
web...and with javatelnet the dumb user that links to such games from your
www page to said game like spacer quest and back doesn't even know what
telent means..just sees a window come up ...planetbashers ...game and back
out....

anyway my 2 c worth ..besides i have too much apple and old ms dos equip
that can run this stuff and i have enough boat anchors and door stops..which
is their only other use probably
