Nice suggestion, if it worked.  This does not occur on any of the
three copies I have downloaded from various sources.  Further,
creating a blank file of the same size as the original results in the
high score being saved but the score table being disabled.  Hence the
mystery ...

 The table does not store recognizable ASCII values for the data
either.  I suspect the manufacturer did not want to allow "cheating".
