I've never heard of that, but there were a least a couple of 68000 
coprocessor cards for the Apple II. It would have been possible to run 
GEM on them if someone modified GEM to support the rest of the Apple II 
hardware e.g. the video display and disk drives, the stuff that used to 
go in the CP/M BIOS.

The other way to run GEM would be to use the IBM PC version and a PC 
Transporter card in an Apple II.
