Slowing down the head SOME might have some impact if the particle/data
density was not fully utilized (aka if it was passing over twice as much
area as would REALLY be needed to store the data), but I imagine that as the
speed is slowed down, it would start to have some impact on the reliability
of the data at some point.

I imagine that they would have built in at least SOME amount of slack to
begin with, to up the "reliability" of the storage, but it would be hard to
say how much.. but 2X would be pushing it a bit, afterall, wouldn't they
have LOVED to have twice as much storage on those disks, IF it was just as
reliable? ;)
