GS Woes

Okay, Bill's busy with a project, so I'm going to ask here. It all
started when I got a ZipGS for my GS. Plugged it in, turned it on,
wouldn't work. Talke to the guy who sold it to me, and suggested it
might be the DIP configuration. Went back, changed the DIPs - still
nothing. No power light, no friendly beep. I thought it might be the
power supply, which I replaced. Now I get a light, and some colorful
blurry lines across the screen, but no beep. Took out the card and
tried it again - same thing.
Why do I have the feeling I'm going to be looking for another GS?
