Yes, an 1/8th inch stereo male jack will work correctly in the audio
input jack, which works fine for a set of headphones, or one of those
cables that has a stereo 1/8" jack on one end and 2 male RCA stereo
jacks on the other end (like the ones that come with portable cd
players so you can plug them into a stereo?). Is that cable the
"standard stereo patch cord" you're talking about?

you're suggesting just taking one of those signals, using adaptors
(say from radio shack?) to go from the RCA connector to a 1/4" cable
(like a guitar cable)? would it be ok to run that signal into a mixing
board? would there be any weird impedance or signal strength issues?
