A semi-standard way would be to use a MIDI card to control a
similarly equipped lighting setup.
Another would be for the lighting controller to use an RS232
serial input.
Perhaps the easliest and most common would be to use one or
more parallel ports to directly control a home-brew or proprietary
lighting control box.
These days, the most common digital lighting control standard
is DMX-512, based on a 250kbps RS-485 serial interface--which
would require a special interface for, perhaps, all but a IIgs.
