By all means, if the 65C02 is a known-good processor, go ahead and swap it.
It makes no difference except to software that might use the extra opcodes.
The processor speed is nearly identically across all versions of the
//e -which for all intents and purposes is ~1MHz.
The old ][e, and by that, I mean "unenhanced" - doesn't matter if it has an
original Rockwell (or Siemens) 6502 or a 65C02.
