It could but it would be overkill and requires extra steps.  If all
you want to do is copy ASCII files from the IIgs to a PC then you
would be best off just using communications software on the IIgs
(Spectrum, ProTERM or other) and the PC (HyperTerminal or other) and
connecting the two machines together with a null-modem cable.

Using Marinetti to copy files still requires that the machines be
connected together by a null-modem cable but you have to install
Marinetti and some other application to do the actual transfer.  You
can use gwftp or SAFE (both are FTP clients and SAFE requires
Spectrum) to upload files from the IIgs to the PC.  However, you'd
also have to set up some way to do a TCP/IP connection between the
machines (which is what this thread is about) and an FTP server on the
PC for this to work.

Another option, if we can get a TCP/IP connection between the IIgs and
PC, would be to use Marinetti v3 on the IIgs and run Casper, the web
page server, and use a web browser on the PC to connect to the IIgs to
download files.

The above is assuming you are running some version of Windows on the
PC.  The current problem we have is that the dial-up server option,
that has been in Windows since 95 I believe, requires a Microsoft
variation of the CHAP protocol to get a connection running.  If you
are using some version of UNIX then you can get a TCP/IP connection
going between the IIgs and PC and do either of the above.
