Here's a major piece of important info. The CFFA worked in
IIgs and //e and now in IIe and II+. If someone creates an
accelerator that works across the board, then 200-300 is not
out of the question. Also I have sold 35+ of an item in a
couple months that is exclusively for the IIgs. :o()
I'm not sure that an "across the board" accelerator could be done,
though I'd love to see one. Frankly, I'd love to see either a 20mhz+
65816 card, or a PowerPC accelerator (PPC only because Bernie should
contain all the code needed for 65816 emulation)
As far as prices are concerned, what I've paid in the past is kind of a
guide for what I'm willing to pay in the future: I paid $125 for ZipGS
card, and c. $25 for my Transwarp (IIe) card. I've paid $25-50 for my
SCSI cards, and somewhere around that price for my IIgs 8 meg cards
(neither of which are fully loaded, one has 7 megs - it's in a ROM 3,
the other has 5 megs - it's in a ROM 01, both have Woz lids)
Ok, so I'm cheap, or poor, but I'm willing to pay if I think I'm getting
a good value. Frankly, $150 for an ethernet card doesn't seem like a
good value to me. I don't have a Second Sight card because I'm not
willing to pay over $200 for one. But you know, if someone could create
a combo card that gave at least 20 mhz of speed, 8 megs of RAM, SCSI or
IDE, and perhaps the ability to use standard VGA monitors, I'm sure that
I'd spend upwards of $250 for it. Perhaps more (wanting to preserve my
marriage here ;-)
The questions are: Can such a card be created? Can it be sold for c.
$200-300? Can the creator sell enough to at least break even? I don't
know. But I would like to think so.
