Appleworks was first "Three Easy Pieces" written for the /// under SOS, then ported to the //e under ProDOS.

The Pascal workshop had hints and helps for writing software that would work on both machines.

The ///'s four expansion slots are Apple II slots. Some II cards work just fine in the /// slots. The disk drives are the same. The SOS/ProDOS disk format is the same.

In a sense, the //e upgrades a ][Plus almost to the level of the ///.
