With Color Classic there are several possibilities. Importantly the PSU is
not interchangable with other Classic Macs.

It's a PITA and it doesn't always work. Sounds like impending HD failure,
mine has the same issues. I think it might be related to the PSU/Analogue
board.

The 40SC in my SE died; replacing it with a newer, 105Mb SCSI involved
playing with drivers and later formatters to make it work ;)

T15 IIRC, often offered on eBay. You also want a case cracker, a sort of
clamp with flattened end to free off the casing.

SE is best for really old gaming, but I use a Color Classic upgraded with
LC575 and it's pretty stable.

An LC or LCII is also a nice machine for colour games.
