I've got two separate Apple IIGS Memory Expansion cards (both made by
Apple and have the same design and part numbers; they're just from
different factory runs). Both made in 1986... 256K board in Australia
and 1 MB board in Singapore.
One is a base 256K board (only 8 chips on upper left portion of board)
and the other is a pristine 1 MB board (all 32 chips on it). The 1 MB
board also has both jumpers set correctly for 1 MB operation.
The 1 MB board is in perfect shape -- looks like literally made
yesterday. No scratches, gouges, dust, or anything. Still looks as if it
was taken out of an antistatic bag yesterday, whereas the 256K board has
some minor fading of the PCB.
But when I put in the 1 MB board in the IIGS, and go to the Control
Panel... the RAMdisk only indicates the base 1.125 MB of RAM, rather
than 2.125 MB of RAM. (This is how I'm checking to see if the system
recognizes the memory expansion card.)
Same problem on *both* a ROM 00 and ROM 03 GS -- neither recognizes
either expansion card (256K or 1 MB).
What could I be missing? (And if it's relevant, the GS has only one
other card in there -- a ZipGS; but ruled out this as an issue because
same problem even with the ZipGS out of the system.)
