I once plugged a Disk ][ onto my controller card but I think I had the
pins off by one to the right or left, not missing an entire row like
Bill mentioned, and I literally blew a large hole out of the top of a
74LS125 (I think that was the chip) in the Disk ][. I was unable to
fix it myself (I did try) and paid to get it repaired at an Apple
dealer and within a week or two the drive motor died and the dealer
replaced the drive with no charge after that.
I'm pretty sure the first repair was to simply replace the analog card
and the second was probably to replace most, if not all, of the parts
in the drive. :-)
