My player can only play 8-bit mono sampled sounds. It always plays
them at 11.05kHz, so they must also be resampled if they were recorded
at another rate.
As another poster noted, the .wav files you are playing may not be
mono files, or may be 16-bit files, which will result in very wierd,
distorted sound.
Any .wav editor can be used to resample and to combine channels
of a stereo file to produce an 8-bit mono file. Then when you play it,
there will be a fraction of a second of "noise" at the beginning which
is the .wav header being played as if it were sound. (Maybe IISOUND
bypasses this header--it's been a long time since I used IISOUND.)
IISOUND has another problem that I find annoying--I can hear the
little "pop" as it transitions from one bank to another in auxiliary
memory. I think this could be eliminated if the bank switching
were integrated into the sound player rather than being "tacked
on" (time budgets are tight), but I've never been motivated to take
a closer look at it.
