Re: Dead Apple IIc ?

I think I blew up a good Apple IIc with a bad external diskdrive :(
The IIc was working fine, so I was happy to be given an external original IIc
drive. But after connecting that drive the machines did not boot so I
disconnected the external drive. Now the IIc does not boot anymore and displays
"Check disk drive" . The boot floppy is still fine in another Apple II.
From searching this newsgroup I learned that this probably means the IWM IC in
the IIC is broken.
Now the questions:
- is that chip available for a reasonable price? With reasonable I mean less
than the price of a second hand IIc.
- can I test the internal drive without risk of blowing up more Apple disk
controller ports?

As Jerome suggested, I'd clean the head first.
Them I'd try a couple different floppies. Sometimes a floppy will
work on other machines but suddenly decides to stop working on a
particular macine.
An IWM won't cost you more than a couple of dollars'
