Hello everyone. I recently acquired an old VTech Laser 128. Unfortunately, the
disk drive refuses to read any of the disks I've tried in it so far. It acts
the same as if there were no disk in it at all. The stroboscopic disk
underneath it seems to indicate that it's spinning a bit too slow, but I can't
figure out if this would be a cause of the problems. If the drive can't be
repaired, what could possibly be used to replace it? TIA.

First, be sure to try cleaning the head.
Spinning too slow can mess up reads. Something like an additional
5ms per revolution is enough to cause problems for some disks.
You may be able to find some mini-pot or other such adjustment
on the drive's circuit board and get the speed close enough using the
strobe pattern. Then, you can boot Copy II Plus or some other util
with a drive speed display and do a closer adjustment.
